USB-C 20G Loopback Plugs

For Troubleshooting and Testing USB-C ports

Compatible with USB4, up to 20Gb/s

  • Verify data transfer both in and out of a USB port is error free
  • Measure the maximum read and write speed of the USB port
  • Provide detailed diagnostics for faulty USB ports by identifying error types and tracking their frequency

Speed Benchmarking

Measure the maximum read and write performance of USB ports using high-speed benchmark testing.

Data is transmitted as fast as possible to determine peak throughput, with results showing both maximum and average speeds over time.

This allows you to validate real-world performance and compare it against expected USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 capabilities.

Error Detection

Identify and diagnose USB port issues by detecting data transmission errors during testing.

The loopback test verifies that data sent from the host is returned exactly, ensuring full data integrity.

Any errors are logged with counts and types, helping pinpoint unreliable or faulty ports.

Reliability & Burn In Testing

Perform extended stress testing by applying continuous data transfer load to the USB port.

This helps evaluate long-term stability and uncover intermittent or heat-related faults that may not appear during short tests.

It is ideal for burn-in testing and validating system reliability under sustained use.

Port Profiling

Analyse the full capabilities of a USB port using USB Power Delivery (PD) communication.

The device can read advertised profiles, including supported voltages, current limits, and maximum power.

It can also trigger specific voltage levels (up to 48V with EPR), allowing comprehensive testing across all supported power modes.

Cable Detection

Retrieve detailed information about connected USB-C cables via the USB Power Delivery protocol.

This includes identification data, supported data rates, and power capabilities. It ensures cables are suitable for high-speed data transfer and high-power delivery scenarios.

Software, API Automation & Firmware Updates

PC Software

The USB-C 20G Loopback includes a dedicated Windows application for controlling the device and running all test types. The software provides an intuitive interface for configuring tests, selecting speeds and voltages, and viewing results. Outputs can be displayed as logs or graphs, and results can be saved for further analysis.

API Programming Support

An API is provided to enable communication between the device and external software. This allows users to create custom scripts and automate testing processes. It is especially useful for integration into production lines or large-scale validation environments.

Updatable Firmware

The device is designed to support ongoing improvements through firmware updates. This ensures compatibility with evolving USB standards and allows new features or enhancements to be added over time. It helps protect long-term investment in the testing platform.

Use Cases

Manufacturing & QA: High-volume testing of USB ports in production environments to ensure consistent quality.

Compliance testing: Verify adherence to USB specifications, including speed, power delivery, and compatibility.

IT Diagnostics & Repair: Quickly assess port health and performance during maintenance or repair work.

Device Ports

Test Unit Port: This USB-C port is connected to the USB port to be tested. When plugged in, power is provided by the USB port to be tested and the USB 20Gbps Loopback Plug will power up.

External Load Port: Apply an additional load to the USB line for testing under real-world conditions. Ideal for simulating different power scenarios, with built-in current protection and software control. The Nano-Fit Load Cable is an optional cable, and not included with the test unit.

Debug Port: Optional port for stable power or connecting a second system for logging. It can power the device independently, allowing diagnostics even if the test port is faulty or unstable, and enables more reliable cable capability detection by avoiding power-on delays.

Pre-Test for over voltage with the USB-C S.O.S

Protect your USB-C Loopback plug by pre-testing faulty ports for over voltage with the PassMark USB-C S.O.S Short Circuit Tester. This durable and simple test plug will provide you with a visual indication port voltage in seconds, saving your USB-C Loopback unit from potential damage. This is especially useful in production line testing.

If your USB S.O.S pre-test comes back with a Pass, you can move onto more comprehensive troubleshooting with your USB-C 20G Loopback and accompanying software.
