YOU WILL NEED to install the software first before continuing.

PassMark Software Downloads:

The following are required for creating a bootable Windows PE image for BurnInTest or OSForesnics. If you have not already, please download and install the correct program before continuing.

For BurnInTest Pro:

The latest version of BurnInTest Pro can be downloaded from http://passmark.com/download/bit_download.htm

Microsoft devcon utility (Optional, for installing serial port and parallel port device drivers in WinPE) - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/31127

PassMark USB Loopback Drivers (Optional, for using PassMark USB Loopback Plugs):

 PassMark USB 2.0 Loopback Driver - http://www.passmark.com/download/usb2test_download.htm

 PassMark USB 3.0 Loopback Driver - http://www.passmark.com/download/usb3test_download.htm

Any optional other necessary drivers such as NIC, Mass Storage, etc...

For OSForensics:

The latest version of OSForensics can be downloaded from http://www.osforensics.com/download.html

Any optional other necessary drivers such as NIC, Mass Storage, etc...

USB 3.0 Support:

WinPE 3.0 does not support USB 3.0, to enable native USB 3.0 support, WinPE 4.0+ is required.

Program Usage:

WinPE / Packages Tab:

ss_winpe

Target Arch.:

Select the appropriate architecture, 32-bit or 64-bit for the WinPE image. In our testing the 32-bit version of BurnInTest/OSForensics will not run in a 64-bit WinPE environment – use the 64-bit version of BurnInTest/OSForensics in this scenario. It is recommended that you track which drivers you end up putting into your PE image. You will only need to install correct drivers for NIC and non-standard Mass Storage Controllers, such as RAID cards.

WinPE Version:

Select the appropriate WinPE version you have installed, WinPE 3.0 or WinPE 4.0. See Required Download section above for obtaining the correct version.

Windows AIK or ADK installed directory:

Enter in the install directory used when you previously installed Windows AIK or ADK. The path will be used to call tools from appropriate kits while creating the WinPE image. The default paths will be populated when changing the WinPE Version.

Windows AIK default path: "C:\Program Files\Windows AIK"

Windows ADK default path: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.0"

WinPE Packages:

Add any optional components into WinPE.

Note: Only WinPE-HTA, WinPE-Scripting, and WinPE-WMI are required for BurnInTest and OSForensics. You do need to add any additional packages.

For full description of the optional packages see Microsoft's website:

WinPE 3.0 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd799312(v=ws.10).aspx

WinPE 4.0 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824926.aspx

Program / Files Tab:

Program Drop-down:

Select a program to be installed into the Windows PE image. The valid options are None, PassMark BurnInTest Professional, Passmark OSForensics, and Other. When selecting a PassMark program, you will need to specify the destination of the directory from the "Install to USB" menu option. See PassMark Program - Install to USB section for more information.

Storage Area Network Policy:

Allow selection of Storage Area Network (SAN) Policy. Default for OSForensics is set to 3 - Doesn't mount storage devices. Otherwise default is 1 - Mounts all available storage devices.

Add additional Files:

Allows additional files and directories to be added your Windows PE image. For example, for BurnInTest users, they may wish to include the devcon utility.

Note: If you want your own image for the WinPE background, replace the default image \Windows\System32\winpe.bmp with you own image.

Custom:

If you have a custom startup script, you can enter it here. The script will be placed in the system32 directory of the WinPE image. The file will be renamed to startnet.cmd or winpeshl.ini appropriately.

Diskpart file:

Option is only available when the program chosen is BurnInTest and is completely optional. You will need to edit the script to remove the commented out lines dealing with diskpart. This is only required if your disk is unformatted – this will delete any data on physical drive. If you hard disk is formatted, do not include the disk partitioning tool line in the startup script. BurnInTest Raw disk test is not supported under WinPE.
