There is no BIOS setting to specifically select AHCI mode. That mode is set automatically when the RAID function is selected, but RAID is turned off, so that's not the basis of the problem.

I'm in the process of installing Windows 7 Pro 64-bit onto one of the four drives (Hitachi) and I'm dual booting the PC for now using EasyBCD. The 64-bit install is still VERY basic and uses only Microsoft drivers: no Nvidia drivers installed at all. I've confirmed this in Device Manager and I'm only seeing the four Microsoft drivers which you mentioned previously:

Even with that setup, DiskCheckup still fails to detect the disks when running 64-bit windows with Microsoft drivers. The log is:

This line, DFP_GET_VERSION failed, indicates that the device driver still refuses to accept the command.

DFP = Disk Fault Prediction. Which is another name for the SMART standard.

DFP_GET_VERSION is the command to get the version and revision number of the driver.

So we aren't really sure why it is failing for this machine now. Hard to debug without having a similar machine here.

We might put a bit more debugging information in the log for when it happens next time.

Many thanks for trying to sort this out. In principle, DiskCheckup can be made to work with this combination of hardware as Acronis Drive Monitor does correctly detect the disks.

I'm willing and happy to try a future release with better logging abilities to help you debug the problem.
