Default What do the numbers for Benchmark represent?

    I was looking at http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html & http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=[Dual+CPU]+Intel+Xeon+E5620+%40+2.40GHz

What do the numbers represent? Does a [Quad CPU] AMD Opteron 6174 beat out a Intel Core i7 995X @ 3.60GHz?

I need some help understanding these numbers.

    When looking at the numbers:

    • The bigger the number the faster the computer.
    • The results are not a percentage figure. They are relative figures.
    • A computer with a CPU result of 4000 can process roughly twice as much data as a computer with a result of 2000.

Yes, the [Quad CPU] AMD Opteron 6174 does beat out a Intel Core i7 995X @ 3.60GHz. However, the AMD mentioned is a 4 Physical CPU system versus the single CPU i7 995X.
