failure of the read element

Hello,

I just downloaded PassMark DiskCheckUp. When I selected Disk Self-Test, I received the message "the last self-test routine completed with a failure of the read element". I am running the test on the hard drive of a Compaq 6910p laptop. OS is Windows Vista Business. The hard drive is partitioned.

What does this message mean? Or does it mean that the system does not support the self-test, as stated iby PassMark?

It means the drive has tested itself and reported that it didn't pass the test.

Do you experience any other errors when using the laptop?

I would start keeping good backups if you aren't already.
