Default Athlon 64 Multiple Process Test Disk Access Performance

I'm trying to debug a problem that manifests itself as incredibly poor multi-tasking performance on a Athlon 64 3800+ system.

In trying to do so I ran the Passmark Multiple Process Test. My Disk Access during this test shows a score of .08MBps. This seems terribly low to me, but I can find nothing to compare it to.

    Any other results out there?

I don't know if it is significant, but in case my systems specifications are of interest:
    DFI Lanparty UT SLI-D motherboard
    AMD Athlon 64 3800+
    2GB Corsair XMS 3200 memory (2.5,3,3,6)
    Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB PATA 7200RPM w/16MB cache
    ATI X700 w/256MB
XP Pro w/all current updates, drivers, patches, etc.

Here are the multiprocess results from my machine (all tests on)

    Prime Number Search 43061
    Sorting Random Strings 269323
    Compression 691 KBytes per sec.
    Encryption 3839.66 KBytes per sec.
Image Rotation 77.48 Rotations per second
    Integer Addition 156.32 Million Ops/Sec.
    Whetstone 1267.70 Million Ops/Sec.
    Dhrystone 706.37 Million Ops/Sec.
    Memory Read 617.23 MB/Sec.
    Memory Write 686.64 MB/Sec.
    Disk Access 0.45

    Specs are::

Dual Intel Xeon CPU 3.40GHz with Hyperthreading.
    Radeon X600 Video
WD Raptor 74 GB, SATA, 10000 RPM Drive
    1GB RAM

But this machine has 4 CPUs (2 real, 2 virtual) so it is going to look good in this test.

That's an excellent example. Thank you. I was hoping to get something from a hyper-threaded machine because I just moved off my Intel hyper-threaded machine to this AMD because of everything I read and heard and so far I'm not impressed.

Now if I can just get another example, one from an Athlon 64 any speed, non-dual core.

I was almost tempted to buy a system like yours. All the time I've wasted either waiting for some data to get processed or trying to diagnose "slowness" would equal a mountain of cash. But I'm just too much of tight wad.

I'm trying to live by the motto "Life's too short for a slow machine." but so far I'm failing...
