Thumbs down NEW i7 1400 baseline?

    Hi everyone.

I was just curious, I have not really overclocked my system or anything but to me this baseline seems pretty low for an i7.

I just installed windows 7 ultimate 64, and tried this test out and I got a measly 1400, overall.

This entire computer was built by me and nothing on it is old.
I understand this test goes against some pretty crazy computers but, 1400 vs 6200 (top computer) seems a bit crazy considering my graphics card is a gtx 260 and my processor is an i7 and my HDD is a veloci raptor..its not sli and it not raid but really 1400?

The top machine is 6200 at the moment. Not 7000.

The raptor isn't so fast anymore, they are looking pretty old in fact. New SSD drives do much better, and doubly so in a RAID config.

You might also find just one score is pulling down your overall score (e.g. the CD drive, or 2D).

The top machines are overclocked to 4Ghz or more, and have between 6GB and 50GB of RAM. I am guessing you are nowhere near this.

The GTX260 is currently only the 10th fastest video card in our charts, and the top machine have faster cards and have probably overclocked their video cards as well.

Some of the top 20 might also have replaced their CD drives with RAM disks & tweaked windows.

You need to spend serious money and time to get anywhere near to the top, then more to stay there. I know this was probably your dream machine, but there are some real fanatics out there.

Ok i guess I should have given a bit more information.

    Here we go.

    i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GhZ LGA1366
    Gigabyte GA-EXUD4P(Vers. 1, bois #F
    Mushkin Enhanced Redline 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 (6-7-6-1v1.65
    WD VelociRaptor 300gb 10,000rpm (WD3000HLFS)
    Hitachi Deskstar idk/7k 2TB 7200rpm
    Samsung 1TB 7200rpm
    WD 250GB 7200rpm
    GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI express
    Rosewill RCR-FD400 74-in-1 3.5" Internal Card reader/floppy
Coolmax CUQ-1200B ATX SLI ready 1200w PS
Cooler Master HAF 932 ATX Full Tower Case.

my mushkin ram is some of the best ram on the market.

My video card is 11th overall a bit slow but still.. my processor is pretty damn good. This is a fresh install and I have defragged and ran all virus tests and spyware tests..

1400 seems low, now i understand most overclock, but is this a good mark for a standard i7 or does it seem low still? I did tweak windows fyi.

Care to share your complete results. After running a complete test go to file and export results as text. Then copy and past the results into a new post. Here are the results for the rig in my sig. Q6600 running at 3ghz. I'd guess something is wrong either with your rig or PT7's settings as my overall score is 1576 and your hardware should be faster. BTW set power management settings in 7 to "high performance" before testing. Also using a DVD for the CD test is a good idea. A pressed Vista or Windows 7 disk works well.

There has to be issues with this software im guessing. FYI this is with hyperthreading turned off.. I do worse with it on. I guess it's possible I have incorrect drivers somewhere or something but, it seems more like its this software because there are a few threads about this software and i7.Also, I don't think I have ever gotten over 1500 on this. Any help would be appreciated.

Your CPU, Memory and 2d/3D Marks are low for some reason.
I found a system almost exactly like yours and its score is
about where I think it should be. From the download baseline
tool advanced tab use the file name i920, GTX260 in the search box.
You should only get one result. Download and compare it to your system.
Question: did you install the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard?
Or are you using the default windows drivers?
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...18494&lang=eng
Also remember to set power management settings in Win 7 to "high performance" before testing.

I agree with WW, the CPU results are low. And poor CPU performance is probalby pulling down some of the other results as well.

There are at the moment 14,468 results from machines with the "Core i7" CPU in the baseline database. And 1706 baseline results with the same CPU and same video card. Searching for "Core i7" will return many more results that a search for i920.

Also hyperthreading should slightly improve performance, not decrease it.

Device drivers can have a big impact on video performance, but not so much on the CPU performance, as device drivers aren't invovled to any great degree in the CPU benchmark.

So I think you should be looking at other issues. For example, Overheating causing throttling of the CPU. A common issue on new home built systems where the heat sink wasn't connected correctly. What is your CPU temp under load?

I installed the motherboards chipset drivers from gigabyte websight.

wow you guys know your stuff, I can't believ I overlooked that. My temps are pretty high on load (around 85C, this was after 1 passmark test).. I will be ripping out my cpu and redoing the artic silver tonight.

    I will update you guys.

You can watch it throttle down.... as the temps rise.1598mhz.

    P.S. thanks

Good call on the heat issue! Its nice to see PT used in diagnosing a performance problem. I wish PT could determine CPU clockspeed accurately as it would make comparisons much easier.

You sure had that CPU smoken hot. Make sure you follow the instructions when applying the AS5.
    http://www.arcticsilver.com/ins_rout...2intelas5.html
I have used AS for years but have recently realized its not much better than some other products that are much easier to work with. In your screen shot the current temps should not be causing the CPU to declock itself. Do you have windows power management set to high performance?

Edit: I was thinking you could possibly have a case cooling problem causing the high CPU temps? Run with the case covers off and see what happens before re doing the heatsink. What case do you have and fans used.
