    Default DiskCheckup: Test result

I've been getting S.M.A.R.T. error on one of my hard drive for at least a month now and have been wondering what was actually wrong with it... then I came across DiskCheckup. The result was as follows:

(Description, Raw Value, Status, Value, Worst, Threshold)
    Reallocated Sector Count, 2556, FAIL, 1, 1, 63

    What does the error mean?

    Thanks!

It means that it is time to start backing up the data on that drive & to start thinking about a replacement.

Part of the disk surface are failing and have been moved to new locations. If the errors continue eventually the hardware will no be able to hide the faults and you will start to have real data loss, corrupt files, etc..

I realised it was time for backup+replace...

Basically does it mean the faulty sectors have been excluded from use and the number of these faulty sectors have reached critical level?

This is quite surprising as the hard drive is by Maxtor which, according to my experience, is pretty reliable and that I only had the HDD for 3 three years...

    Thanks for the response!

    Yes.

You would need to check with Maxtor, but good luck getting any sensbile answer from them.

Which is probably two years past its warranty date
