hello,

I always check my disk with the Diskcheckup (http://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup.htm)and HDtune, but last hour I had a really quick power cut off (about 2s with no power)... the computer reseted and then I did a scandisk (didnt find any problems) and checked again the SMART status.
But this time I've noticed the Raw Value of Raw Read Error Rate attribute is 1.
After this I desfragmented and did a surface scan on all partitions to see if the value raise, but it didnt change.

I also noticed the Spin Up Time attribute has a lower value (normally 5504ms ~ 5568ms), but I dont care too much about this attribute, as the power quickly came, the disk was still spinning, so it took less time to speed up.

Should I be worried about the Raw Read Error Rate Value or it was caused by the power cut off? I was running emule, IM, and Need For Speed Carbon game. OS is WXP Pro SP2 with all updates installed.

thanks a lot

I don't think there is anything to be worried about. Sudden power failure are fairly common place, and you haven't crossed the threshold that would indicate that the drive is bad.

I have not a good feeling about it.

Can you elaborate? I mean is there smoke pouring out of the drive or something that you are basing your bad feelings on?

As you can see from your own results, all the SMART attributes reported, "OK".

Raw Read Error Rate Fail.
What should/can I do?

Start to keep good backups of your hard disk so when the drive fails you have minimum disruption. This is not the kind of problem that you can fix at home.

I also wanna hear some answer from this problem of mine which similar to previous post of other members. I just purchase an IDE 320GB hard drive about just 2 days ago but seems that the raw read error rate and seek error rate has some porblems. I'm not sure if this ok or not, or should I ask for repalcement from the supplier or not...

here the drive smart ino

If you had a FAIL for the "Raw Read Error Rate" or a fail for any other value, then you should be concerned and attempt to get the drive replaced if it is under warranty.

Yes it is still under warranty since I just bought it. There's no fail mark in "Raw Read Error " and "Seek Error Rate" it say that it is Ok but the values are very alarming... Other Smart Softwares indicates that the health and performance status of the drive is at 50% only.... my other 2 drives are at 95 and 100%. Only just this new 320gb HD i bought is at 50%.... I'm really confused if I should ask for replacement even the drive is running well, but the performance is very low in percentage....

HOW DOES THIS SOUND: attribute raw read error rate changes 60 TO 58 . DOES THIS MEAN NEW HDSK ?

If you had a FAIL for the "Raw Read Error Rate" or a fail for any other value, then you should be concerned and attempt to get the drive replaced if it is under warranty.

But just looking at the numbers in the "Raw value" column doesn't tell you much, as these values are determined by the drive manufacturers and the significance can vary from one drive model to the next.

More interesting are the values in the "worst" and "threshold" columns.

I'm relieved! But can you tell me why this message keeps popping up? One time 52 to 51, then 60 to 58 or 58 to 57. Does it have anything to do with a programm I've downloaded? Thanks for your information, Ricky

There is no message in our software that pops up and just says "raw error rate". There is an option in DiskCheckup to display messages when a threshold is crossed, but these should be mostly self explanatory, and more informative than just 3 words.
