Cdrive not reading any discs at all after a simple clean up

I worked on this pc for 2 days cleaning it up.The man had so much junk it wouoldnt even hardly boot in less than 20 minutes.It got cleaned up good was running great!!!Then went to put in a systems work CD and wont read any discs at all now cant find the problem.I disconnected it inside and started windows up hoping XP woulod detect it and fix then plugged it all back up restarted again and found new hardware but did not repair the problem I am at a loss

This doesn't appear to be related to our software. I would have reformatted the hard disk rather than spend two days cleaning it. (You still might have missed software like root kits in any case).

I would start by checking if the CD is recognized by BIOS.
