Which will get the most performance

Hello, hope you can answer this for me, what do you think will give better performance in games.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz + HD 5870 OR Intel Core i7-920 2.66GHz + HD 5850

As you can see, the AMD will save me more money, giving me a chance to buy a 5870 instead of a 5850 like I would with the i7-920.

I would think it would depend on the game.

I would get the i7, as it will run cooler and be slightly faster for non game applications.

Or I would get the Phenom, with the 5850 and then with the savings get a solid state hard drive.

Just like you said the i7 would be better to get, but is it worth downgrading my choice from an 5870 to a 5850?
