Hello

I have a windows pc and it tells me the processor is intel (R) Core (TM) 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHZ 2.39 GHZ

in the device manager it shows there are two.

I would like to but a IMac and it says it has 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

does this mean it has two processors at 2.66?

is the Imac better processor speed as i dont undertand what the 6600 @ 2.40 means

regards

in the device manager it shows there are two.

This is normal for a dual core machine.

i dont undertand what the 6600 @ 2.40 means

6600 is the Intel model number of the CPU.
2.4 refers to the clock speed. 2.4 = 2.4GHz. Meaning it does about 2.4 billion things a second.

But the clock speed by itself isn't a great indication of the overall CPU's performance. New CPUs are more efficient. Meaning that they do more per clock cycle than old CPUs. Which is why a chart like the CPU Benchmark chart is useful (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/).
