I have an ABIT AV8 MB, AMD 3000+ processor, 2GB 400 Mem, and Gforce FX5200 video card.
Most marks seem ok except for this one here are the performance marks:
CPU 487
2D 298
3D 1.8
Mem 344
Disk 370
CD 406
Total Passmark 33.3
Can anyone help me understand what makes my 3D so bad ?

Using XP sp3? What video driver are you using? If its the windows default driver this could cause low 3d performance. Please give complete system spec's.

Thanks for the quick response,
I am using the Nvidia driver, dated 22-10-2006
Version: 6.14.10.9371

Try updating the drivers to start with. They release new drivers every 2nd week. So anything from 2006 is now very old.

I downloaded new driver from 2008 and got the same results (even lawer number). can this be due to HW problem? Everything else seems good.

What are the individual scores from the 3D tests (in frames / sec). Do you use any other 3D applications on this machine (e.g. newer games)?
The 3D mark of the FX 5200 (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?cpu=GeForce+FX+5200) should be around 40. Which makes it a slow card, but not as slow as you are reporting.
Also I just looked at the nVidia web site. For the GeForce FX series cards the latest driver is in fact from Oct 17th 2006, Version 95, if you are using Vista (i.e. they aren't really supporting Vista). But there is a much later release available for XP (Version 175.19).
You didn't mention which O/S you are using, but also make sure it is up to date, especially with the latest DirectX.

Thanks again for the quick reply. I reverted back to the original driver from 2006:
XP SP3 fully up to date with all windows update, DX 9.0c,
3d test details are: 3d mark - 1.79 (On each result there is (N/A) mark )
simple - 0.35
Medium - 0.31
complex - 0.46
In addition, Attached is the DirectX diag of the main comp' and display where you can see all the relevant details of my machine:

If you are using XP then I would suggest using the latest drivers, version 175.19.
You might then also want to look in the control panel for the card to ensure video hardware acceleration is on.
Also try switching to 32bit color. Some older card can be funny with the color depth and only accelerate certain depths.
